What distinguishes a Misciano silk square from a standard scarf is technical rigor. Our natural silk twill, with a weight of 80 to 95 g/m² (19 to 22 momme), is woven in Italy. It is recognizable by its subtle diagonal, dense feel, and superior wrinkle resistance. This weave gives the piece a controlled matte sheen and a slightly crisp drape, a sign of a living fabric. All formats are cut from the same twill: a small square and a large square have the same hand.
The edges are hand-rolled, meaning they are rolled and sewn by hand by Italian artisans, never simply machine overlocked. This long, precise gesture immediately distinguishes an artisanal scarf from industrial production. The color fidelity of our silk squares is measured against the ISO 105-C06 standard, which assesses resistance to domestic washing: our dyes withstand more than thirty hand-washing cycles without significant loss of intensity, with retention above 92%. ISO 105-B02 guarantees 1,200 hours of equivalent UV exposure before perceptible color shift, compared to 400 to 600 hours for synthetic printed silks. The pigments are fixed by high-definition printing on Italian twill.
Misciano designs are not bought from a catalog. The historic 90 squares feature our double-sided prints, Promenade à Misciano, Plan de ville, Jardin suspendu, Boussole céleste. The 50, 70, 110, and twilly formats feature a new family of designs in the style of French engraving: medallions, coats of arms, celestial maps, porcelains, French gardens, bestiaries. The same universe is adapted from one format to another, the Zodiaque doré in 70 square and twilly, the Porcelaine bleue in 50, 110, and ribbon, never as a simple reduction: each design is recomposed for the surface where it will be seen, border first for a 50, central medallion for a 110, row of motifs for a twilly.
Around the neck, it structures a silhouette: a lavallière knot on an open shirt, a casual triangle on a simple top, or three wraps as a band for a dressier effect.
