A Lemon Yellow That Catches the Light
Yellow is the colour most people hesitate to wear, because a yellow that is too warm tips toward mustard and one that is too pale tips toward cream. This one is a lemon yellow, slightly zesty, that stays luminous on fair skin as well as on tanned skin. The cut leaves it plenty of room: bare shoulders created by an elasticated neckline, balloon sleeves, a gathered bodice fastened with a small knot, a full skirt that stops at mid-thigh, and a waist tie that ties at the back.
The Experience When Worn
- A colour that brightens the face: worn close to the neck, the slightly embossed surface of the fabric reflects light without shine
- Free shoulders: the neckline elastic holds on the upper arms without slipping and can be pulled up if you prefer to cover your shoulders
- A bodice without straps: the gathered cups and the fitted waist piece keep the top of the dress in place
- An adjustable silhouette: the waist tie stitched at the sides can be tied at the back more or less tightly, depending on the look you want
Craftsmanship & Material
The composition is stated on the label: 50% viscose, 50% polyester. On a vivid colour like this yellow, this blend has a specific purpose. Viscose takes dye deeply and gives a dense, matte colour; polyester, being more stable, limits colour bleeding and fading over repeated washes. It is also what keeps the relief of the embossed weave, that small, regular crinkle which is part of the material and does not need ironing. Our article viscose or polyester: which to choose for a dress explains how these two fibres complement each other.
The balloon sleeves are cut from a rectangle of fabric wider than the arm, gathered twice: at the top into the neckline elastic, and at the bottom into an elastic set above the elbow. This double gathering gives the rounded shape and holds it when worn. The bodice follows the construction of a milkmaid dress: gathered cups joined at the centre by a fine tie, a smooth waist piece underneath, a skirt gathered onto the waist seam, and an invisible zip at the centre back.
Styling Tips
- White flat sandals and a raffia bag: the yellow keeps all its freshness with light accessories.
- Nude court shoes and small pearl earrings: for a garden party or a festive lunch.
- A beige trench or an ivory blazer worn over the shoulders: the dress carries into mid-season without losing its colour.

Caring for Your Piece
Wash the dress alone or with light colours the first few times, at 30 °C on a delicate cycle, inside out. No bleach or oxygen-based stain removers, which fade yellow. No tumble drying. Dry on a hanger in the shade: drying in direct sun dulls vivid colours. Iron on a low setting, inside out, avoiding the balloon sleeves, which should be fluffed up by hand.
