Sweatshirt cut, jewelled neckline
The silhouette is that of a sweatshirt: dropped shoulders, voluminous sleeves tapered to a wide flat cuff, deep band that lets the bodice blouse above. The fabric, however, is something else. It is a fine, matte viscose jersey, supple and cool to the touch, and the neckline features a band of white pearls and rhinestones set directly into the knit. That alone is enough to lift the piece out of loungewear territory and onto tailored trousers.
Wearing Experience
- Nothing to wear over it: the pearl-set neckline plays the role of a necklace; a choker would sit on top of it unseen
- Dropped shoulders: the shoulder seam sits at the top of the arm: the ease comes from the cut, not from an oversized size
- A knit that doesn't scratch: viscose and polyamide create a smooth, cool surface to the touch, without the prickling of wool
- A bloused waist: the deep band at the hips anchors the sweater at the high waist while letting the bodice retain its fullness
Craftsmanship & Fabric
Composition: 75% viscose, 25% polyamide. Viscose delivers fluid drape and a cool hand; polyamide provides abrasion resistance and shape retention. It's a useful pairing: viscose jersey alone stretches at the elbows and cuffs after the first few washes, and those are precisely the two places that this voluminous cut puts the most strain.
The pearl band is neither printed nor glued on. The pearls and rhinestones are set into a mesh of metallised thread, and it is this mesh, not each pearl individually, that is sewn onto the knit. The method shows in two ways. The band follows the neckline curve without stiffening it, so the collar keeps its elasticity when pulling the sweater on. And it widens where there is room: three to four staggered rows at the centre front, a single row as it approaches the shoulder, where it stops cleanly. The back is left entirely plain, avoiding any feel of pearls when leaning back. Our guide to women's sweaters explores what fabric changes in a voluminous cut.
Styling Tips
- Black tailored trousers with a press and loafers: the contrast between the supple knit and crisp wool is what prevents the ensemble from looking like loungewear.
- Fluid maxi skirt and ankle boots, sweater tucked in at the front only, to define the waist without losing the blouse.
- Under an open blazer: the pearl band remains visible in the lapel opening, and the sweater's dropped shoulder passes under the blazer's structured shoulder.
It joins the other pieces in our beige sweaters collection.
Care Instructions
Hand wash at 30°C, or delicate cycle in a mesh bag, always inside-out so the pearl mesh doesn't rub against the drum. No bleach, no tumble dryer. Dry flat and never on a hanger: wet viscose stretches under its own weight, and on shoulders that already drop, this is immediately visible. Press with a cool iron on the reverse side, avoiding the pearl band entirely.
