Collection: High-waisted bikinis

At Misciano, our high-waisted bikinis are designed in our Tuscan workshops with technical fabrics: quick-drying microfiber, sculpted stretch knits and shaping linings. Each model is crafted to offer support, comfort and elegance, whether in a string, tanga or classic brief cut.

Women's High-Waisted Bikini: Abdominal Coverage and Revisited Retro Cut

The high waist of a bikini is not an optical illusion: it is a precise coverage variable. A high-waisted bottom goes above the navel, between 8 and 12 cm above the hips. This higher line covers an actual abdominal area, visually shortens the torso, and lengthens the legs from the waist rather than the hips. The effect on the silhouette depends on the exact height of the bottom and its elastic band width.

Waist Height: Coverage and Proportions

A classic bikini bottom (mid-waist) sits at the hips: the horizontal line is at the widest point of the body for pear or triangle shapes. A high-waisted bottom moves this line upwards, at the navel or above: the line is at the narrowest part of the torso and not at the widest point. Effect on the legs: the legs seem to start from the waist and not the hips: they appear longer. Abdominal coverage: the fabric band between the top and bottom of the bikini covers the lower belly and part of the stomach depending on the height. A wide elastic band (8 cm or more) exerts light compression: dense fabrics (200+ g/m²) accentuate this effect. A narrow band (3-4 cm) does not compress but outlines the belly without fully covering it.

Body Shapes and High-Waisted Cut

Pear shape (wide hips, narrow shoulders): the high waist moves the crotch line towards the waist and draws the eye upwards. A top with details (thick straps, pattern on the top) reinforces this balance. Rectangle shape (little defined waist): the high waist with a wide elastic band visually marks the waist and creates an hourglass effect. Hourglass shape: all waist heights work. The high waist naturally highlights the slim waist. Apple shape (round belly): the high waist with compressive fabric covers and contains the lower belly. A V-neck top draws the eye upwards and compensates.

Coordinated Top: Support and Coherence

A high-waisted bikini is worn with a coordinated top (same fabric, same color or matching print). Compatible top cuts: the triangle (minimalist, shoulder tanning), the bandeau (horizontal line, strapless), the wrap (structuring V, support for generous busts), the sports bra (sporty coverage). The proportion between top and bottom must be coherent: a very wide high-waisted bottom paired with a very thin triangle creates a visual imbalance. A top whose length goes down to the navel can overlap the high-waisted bottom: the visible skin area between the two is eliminated. This look is close to a tankini.

Mesh: Swimsuits by Cut and Color

FAQ: Women's High-Waisted Bikini

Does the high-waisted bikini really elongate the legs?
Yes: the bottom line passes at or above the navel, which is higher than the widest point of the hips. The legs seem to start from the waist and not the hips: they appear longer. This effect is more pronounced on pear or triangle body shapes (wide hips) than on hourglass or rectangle body shapes.
What waist height to choose?
Medium waist (4-6 cm above the pelvis): covers the lower belly without rising to the navel: the most common cut of current high-waisted bikinis. Classic high waist (8-12 cm, at the navel): maximum coverage, marked retro effect, more pronounced leg elongation. Very high waist (above the navel): vintage 50s look, full belly coverage.
How to care for a high-waisted bikini?
Same rules as any swimsuit: rinse with cold water before and after each swim (reduces chlorine absorption), hand wash only (machine damages elastanes), dry flat in the shade (never in the dryer). A polyamide fabric resists chlorine 30 to 40% better than polyester: check the composition label.
