A raglan sleeve, and the dress stops pulling at the shoulders

On a long satin weave dress, the first point to give is always the shoulder: a classic armhole concentrates all the fabric weight there, and you can see the seam marking after a season. This one doesn't have that problem. The sleeve runs directly from the boat neck with a seam that crosses the shoulder diagonally, so the load is distributed across the entire width of the upper body. This is what allows this dress to be generous without ever sagging.

The Wearing Experience

  • A wide, straight neckline: it exposes the collarbones from one end of the shoulder to the other without ever slipping onto the arm
  • Sleeves that bloom: generous along the arm and fitted at the wrist, with no button or cuff that would mark the hand
  • A belt in the same fabric: it defines the waist wherever you choose and lets the satin weave bloom slightly above the knot
  • A longer hem at the back: the curve follows the movement of walking and lengthens the silhouette in profile

Craftsmanship & Material

Composition: 50% cotton, 30% cupro, 20% tencel lyocell. Satin weave is not a material but a weave structure, that is, a way of interlacing threads: it is these three fibres woven in satin weave that give the smooth surface and soft sheen. No silk is in its composition.

Cupro accounts for the drape. It is obtained from cotton linter, the very short fibres that remain attached to the seed after ginning and are too short to be spun as they are. Dissolved then extruded into continuous filament, they produce a very fine yarn, cool to the touch and with no memory of creasing. It is the fibre that tailors traditionally use as lining, precisely because it glides over what it covers. Combined with cotton, which provides structure and prevents the fabric from becoming limp, and with lyocell, which retains colour through washing, it creates a black that moves considerably and shines subtly. Our satin weave dress guide returns to how a satin weave structure captures light.

Styling Tips

  1. Pointed-toe pumps and long earrings: a boat neck calls for exposed ears and hair worn up.
  2. Belt removed and heeled boots, the dress worn straight: it becomes a daytime piece.
  3. A long open knit cardigan over it, the belt tied over the cardigan rather than underneath, to keep the waist visible.

It joins the other pieces in our satin weave dresses section.

Its daytime version, in crisp linen and sleeveless, is the brown linen midi shirt dress.

Care for Your Piece

Hand wash at 30°C, or delicate cycle in a bag, on the reverse. No bleach, no tumble dryer. Cupro regains its hand feel after air drying on a hanger in shade: untie the belt and hang it separately, otherwise its thickness will mark the skirt during drying. Iron with a cool iron on the reverse only. An iron that is too hot placed on the face will permanently gloss the satin weave, and the mark will not come out.

Voluminous dress

Very voluminous maxi dress that needs folding to store. I had to buy a long dress hanger. Otherwise no issues with the product, I'm happy.

For the office

Slim cigarette trousers in gabardine. Perfect fit down to the ankles. Slightly stretchy fabric for comfort, I feel good in them.

Chic black jumpsuit

Black pants jumpsuit, belted at the waist. Very elegant for evening wear. Heavy crepe, moves well when walking, perfect.
