The little black dress, with a cape that doubles as a sleeve
A halter neckline bares the shoulders; it's both its strength and its limitation, as many hesitate to wear their arms completely bare in the evening. This little black dress solves the question with a transparent chiffon cape, attached at the neckline, that drapes freely over the bust and upper arms. The shoulders remain bare, and the transparency adds elegance without covering. Underneath, an A-line skirt to mid-thigh, for a clean and easy silhouette.
Wearing Experience
- Bare shoulders without bare arms: the transparent cape drapes over the upper arms and moves with every gesture
- A neckline you can adjust: the neckline ties at the nape: you adjust the height and tightness of the collar yourself
- A clean waistline: the cape ends right at the waist seam, the skirt begins there and flares out
- An easy length: at mid-thigh, with an A-line skirt that doesn't ride up when you sit
Craftsmanship & Material
Composition, according to the label: main fabric 97% polyester, 3% elastane; secondary fabric 100% polyester; lining 100% polyester. The small amount of elastane gives the dress body slight elasticity, useful on a fitted bodice that closes with a zipper. The cape is made of chiffon, a very lightweight voile woven with highly twisted yarns: this twist is what makes chiffon slightly grainy to the touch, matte and transparent at once.
The halter neckline is constructed from a band collar: the top of the bodice is gathered into it, and these gathers that radiate under the chin provide the fullness needed at the bust without darts. The collar is not closed in one piece: it ties at the nape with a tie of the same fabric, above a small keyhole opening. The cape, mounted on the same collar, is split down the center back into two panels, which allows the zipper to pass through and keeps it invisible. Our cocktail dress guide explains how to choose the length based on the time of evening.
Styling Tips
- Pointed black pumps and gold hoop earrings: the cocktail version, hair loose over the shoulders.
- Tall black boots and an oversized blazer draped over the shoulders for mid-season.
- Metallic clutch and bold lipstick: the dress stays understated, the accent comes from elsewhere.

Care for Your Piece
Delicate wash at 30°C, preferably by hand, inside out, tie untied. No bleach, no dryer. Dry on a hanger. Chiffon should be ironed on low heat on the wrong side; steam pressing at a distance is even safer. Polyester black holds its colour well, but washing it with dark colours only prevents light fibres on the chiffon.
