A understated dress to the hip, then a single diagonal
The entire top of this dress is very simple: matte black fitted knit, a stand collar, bare shoulders. All the detail is concentrated on a single line. The skirt opens diagonally from the hip to the calf, and this edge is entirely trimmed with layered black organza ruffles, with a row of silver sequins at the heart. As you walk, the leg appears and then disappears behind the ruffles. It is an evening dress that requires no accessories.
The Wearing Experience
- Support without boning: the bandage knit, thick and firm, shapes the silhouette and springs back into place on its own; it doesn't cling like lightweight jersey
- Free shoulders: the stand collar and halter armholes bare the shoulders and upper back, without straps that slip
- A leg that reveals itself as you walk: the opening starts high on the hip, but the ruffles cover it when standing still
- Ruffles that hold their shape: organza is a stiffened voile: it stays full and doesn't fall flat as the evening goes on
Craftsmanship & Material
The knit of this dress is a bandage knit, composed primarily of polyester (95%, according to the label). You can recognise it by its fine ribs and its thickness: it is knitted tightly, which gives it a shaping quality close to a corset. It is the fabric of fitted evening dresses because it smooths the silhouette instead of highlighting every line, unlike lightweight jersey which reveals everything it covers.
The ruffles are made of organza, a fine, transparent and stiff voile, recognised by its subtle sheen and crisp sound. For an organza ruffle to wave without fraying, its edge is rolled, that is, rolled very finely and stitched: it is this little roll that creates the waves you see on each layer. Between the layers is a row of silver sequins on black tulle, which only appears in motion. The whole is sewn to the diagonal edge of the skirt, front and back, where the cascade continues to the hem. Our article on the asymmetric black evening dress explains why a single diagonal is enough to structure a silhouette.
Styling Tips
- Delicate strappy sandals and silver drop earrings: nothing else, the dress carries the whole look.
- Hair pulled back in a low ponytail to keep the stand collar crisp and clean.
- Black rigid clutch and long black coat for arrival: the ruffles remain the only note of light.

Care for Your Piece
Dry cleaning recommended because of the sequins and organza. Alternatively, hand wash at maximum 30 °C, inside out, without rubbing the ruffles. No bleach, no tumble drying, no spinning. Dry flat. Press with a warm iron on the knit only, never on the sequins, which melt under a hot iron. Hang on a hanger leaving the ruffles free, without crushing them in the wardrobe.
